Scholarship

The Caitlin Clancy Memorial Scholarship was formed in February 2014 after Caitlin passed away suddenly from complications of diabetes and addison’s disease at the age of 18. Her scholarship continues to grow with tremendous support from Caitlin’s family, friends, and the entire Guilderland community. The Caitlin Clancy Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior at Guilderland High School who is planning to pursue a career in nursing, nutrition or health sciences, as Caitlin was during her freshman year at SUNY Brockport.

Recipients

"I am honored to have received the Caitlin Clancy Memorial Scholarship.
Although I never knew Caitlin personally, I have heard nothing but marvelous things about her. This scholarship will help me attend the nursing program at SUNY Plattsburgh, and to receive my masters in nursing. My goal is to change the lives of many, and make the world a better place. I will continue Caitlin's legacy by working hard to get my nursing degree. I know she would have touched the lives of many, and I am determined to fufill what Caitlin would have done. When the path is getting rough, I will think of Caitlin, and keep on working hard. I am forever grateful for Caitlin and her family giving me the opportunity to succeed with this scholarship, and to help me pursue my dream of helping others." - Elaine Rosario Santos, 2016 Recipient

"I am so honored to receive one of the Caitlin Clancy memorial scholarships this year! It is such a privilege to be chosen as someone who embodies Caitlin's love for life and social butterfly nature, as well as her dreams of becoming a nurse. I knew Caitlin as a child when she was in my sister's Girl Scout troop and my only memories of her involve smiles and laughter. I hope to continue to reflect this characteristic of her throughout my life and nursing career. In the fall I am heading to Endicott College as a part of their nursing program and plan on continuing to get my masters and become a Nurse Practitioner!" - Jessica VanDoren, 2015 Recipient

"I am honored to have been chosen to receive the Caitlin Clancy Memorial Scholarship to help me attend Suny Brockport as a nursing major. I have heard nothing but amazing things about Caitlin and it is an honor to be recognized as someone with the same values and characteristics as her. I am so grateful to the Clancy family for helping me to achieve my goal, and I am excited to see what my future holds in nursing." - Julia Sanford, 2015 Recipient

"My freshman year I had art class with Caitlin, she was the most outgoing person in the whole class. She always made me laugh and always brightened up the room. I can remember the day she introduced me to the song "Ego" by Beyoncé, we blasted it over the computer for a week. To this day, every time I hear the song I am able to recall such fun memories. Thank you again to the Clancy family and friends, I am honored to have received a scholarship in her name. I hope to one day be as bright and outgoing as she was."
- Katia Hernas, 2015 Recipient

"Words will never be able to describe how honored I am to be the first recipient of Caitlin's Memorial Scholarship. Being chosen as someone who reflects Caitlin's zest and energy for life, her social nature, and compassion for others means the world to me. Every time I get frustrated and want to give up on my own dream of becoming a nurse I just think about Caitlin and the amazing nurse she would have been and that's what keeps me going. I am currently completing my prerequisites for nursing at Schenectady County Community College. Going away for college wasn't for me! After SCCC I plan on attending nursing school, either Ellis Hospital or Albany Memorial Hospital, but I guess I'll see what the future holds!" - Taryn Schmidt, 2014 Recipient
